What Is Spongilla Spicule?
The product is made of tiny needle-shaped structures of freshwater sponge Spongilla lacustris. These natural siliceous biomicroneedles are the skeletal skeleton of the sponge, consisting mostly of amorphous silica, held together by organic proteins.
When cleaned for cosmetic use, the spicules are 180-250μm long and 10-15μm in diameter. There are thousands of these tiny structures in each gram, which is why they work so well for penetrating the skin.
Unlike synthetic microneedles, our product offers superior biocompatibility. The chemically inert silica structure remains stable across various pH levels, ensuring compatibility with acidic and high-active formulations without degradation.
